Kamila Abdul Khabir-Barbour is originally from New York, where she established herself as an artist and where her work was exhibited in local galleries throughout early adulthood. At 23, she moved to Northern Virginia to study studio art and graphic design at George Mason University and started a career as an ad designer and layout artist for a local newspaper.
In 2004, she developed an Islamic art curriculum for grades K-8. Kamila’s latest project is a partnership with her father, photographer, Khalil Abdul Khabir with whom she’s writing a book based on the story told through Abdul Khabir’s photographs. The story is an account of the first African-American, Muslim movement community established on the east coast and possibly the U.S. Kamila enjoys life at home in Maryland with her two daughters Asiya & Bilqis.
